Watson’s parents, Deann Watson and Don Richardson welcomed him into the world on September 14, 1995, in Gainesville, Georgia. He began attending Gainesville High School in the fall of 2010 and was a member of the school’s football team, the Gainesville Red Elephants. Over the course of his high school career, Watson set a number of state milestones, including those for total yards (17,134), total touchdowns (218), career passing yards (13,077), and career passing touchdowns (155).

He carried for a total of 4,057 yards and 63 touchdowns during his career. Watson had a breakout junior season, winning the state championship and garnering numerous honors, including Junior All-American, 2014 Player to Watch, and 2014 Top 100 Recruit, among others. With the help of Watson, Gainesville advanced to the state playoffs in both his sophomore and senior seasons. Watson earned multiple collegiate offers before verbally committing to Clemson University on February 1, 2012, according to his official website.

ESPN 300 rated him as the top QB recruit in the 2014 recruiting class, and he was right. In Houston, Watson became a Christian and became a member of the Southern Baptist Convention after converting to Christianity. Watson’s family received a home from Atlanta Falcons running back Warrick Dunn in 2006, when Watson was 11 years old, as a result of Dunn’s organization Homes for the Holidays, which worked in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity.

Three NRG Stadium cafeteria employees who had been affected by Hurricane Harvey received payment for about $27,000 from Watson during his first NFL game in 2017. During a visit to her home for treatment in March 2020, the massage therapist filed a civil lawsuit against Watson, which was delivered by attorney Tony Buzbee, alleging that Watson had touched her with the tip of his erect penis while asking her for sex.

The lawsuit was delivered by attorney Tony Buzbee on March 16, 2021. According to Watson, “I have never treated a woman with anything other than the highest respect,” in response to Buzbee’s allegations of sexual harassment. According to the lawsuit, the massage therapist quickly terminated the session and broke down in tears once the occurrence occurred. Following Watson’s referral, two additional NFL players sought the services of the massage therapist a few weeks later.

Furthermore, according to the lawsuit, Watson eventually reached out to the massage therapist and expressed regret for his behavior. The following day, another massage therapist represented by Buzbee claimed that Watson had met her at the Houstonian Hotel in August 2020 and had completely undressed and refused to cover up, directing her to massage his anus and penis and making a movement that caused her to touch his penis. Watson was charged with sexual assault and harassment.

Aside from this, the therapist claims that Watson only paid half of the fees that were due for her services. In a third civil case filed against Watson on March 18, 2021, the plaintiffs claim that Watson coerced a massage therapist into performing oral sex on him before she passed out in an office building in December 2020, prompting the plaintiffs to launch the lawsuit. Afterward, the therapist states that she was terrified and defecated on herself after Watson had left. On the same day, the NFL said that it would investigate the allegations of sexual assault against Watson that had been made public.

On March 19, 2021, Buzbee said that nine further civil lawsuits had been filed against Watson (bringing the total number of lawsuits filed against Watson to 12) and that 22 women had contacted his office questioning Watson’s actions while having massages in the previous year. In a letter to the Houston Police Department and the Harris County District Attorney, Buzbee urged that the event be investigated and that criminal charges be brought against Watson. Watson is accused of attempting to forcibly kiss a lady in one of the nine new civil lawsuits, while another lawsuit claims that he attempted to assault the same woman on two separate occasions.

On March 22, 2021, a woman filed a 14th complaint against Watson, accusing him of being a “serial predator.” Watson was named as the defendant. The encounter, according to the charges, occurred in California, making it only the second of the 14 complaints to occur outside of the Houston region. After arriving at the address that Watson had provided, the traveling massage therapist claimed that Watson brought her to a room and “closed the doors behind him.” “I will not have you sign an NDA, but please don’t ever talk about this,” Watson allegedly urged Plaintiff after allegedly “forcing Plaintiff’s hand onto his penis” during the massage.

In addition, the plaintiff claims that Watson communicated with him via Instagram in December, “as if nothing had happened.” 22 lawsuits have been filed against Watson as of April 5, 2021, yet 18 professional massage therapists have since come out in favor of him, stating that the charges against him are inconsistent with their own personal experience working with Watson.

After initially opposing sending evidence to the Houston Police Department because Watson’s attorney Rusty Hardin has a son who serves in the police force, Buzbee has since reversed his position, claiming he will instead send evidence from his clients “elsewhere” while also criticizing outgoing HPD chief Art Acevedo. Neither Hardin nor Acevedo has taken issue with Buzbee’s claims, with Hardin stating that he and his client will “always be available to any law enforcement or regulatory agency that needs our cooperation.”

Watson was the subject of an investigation by the Houston Police Department on April 2, following the filing of an official report by a complainant. During a news conference held on April 6, two of the 22 women who had filed lawsuits against Watson acknowledged themselves publicly for the first time.

During a massage appointment at Solis’ home, according to the first woman to come forward, Watson exposed himself and stroked her hand with his erect penis, prompting her to end the session and urge him to leave the premises. According to Solis, who spoke at a news conference, she is suffering from panic attacks, anxiety, and despair as a result of the sexual assault.

“People believe that I’m only doing this for the money,” she explained. That is not the case. So that Deshaun Watson does not sexually abuse another lady, I’m coming forward now.” On April 7, 2021, Nike and Beats By Dre announced that their endorsement ties with Watson would be terminated. In a joint statement, Reliant Energy and H-E-B declared that they had no plans to work with Watson in the future. In a follow-up interview, Hardin stated that some of Watson’s massages did result in “sexual activity,” but that it was done with Watson’s consent.

On the same day, two courts ruled that 13 of the 22 lawsuits must be refiled within two business days or risk being dismissed and that four of the accusers must refile using their present names or face having their cases dismissed altogether. In a recent announcement, attorneys stated that nine of the twelve women had agreed to expose their identities willingly. The judge allowed Watson’s attorneys’ emergency request, which demanded the revelation of the names of the other accusations against Watson.

The Texans chose to exercise the fifth-year option on Watson’s contract on April 28, 2020, according to the team. Earlier this month, Watson agreed to a contract deal worth $177.5 million over four years with $111 million in guarantees, which will keep him under contract through the 2025 season. This was the second-highest-paying contract in NFL history, trailing only the one signed by Patrick Mahomes. When the New York Giants played the Kansas City Chiefs in the Week 1 NFL Kickoff Game, Watson threw for 253 yards with one touchdown and one interception while rushing for 27 yards and another touchdown in a 34–20 loss.

Watson threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth week of the season against the Minnesota Vikings, but the team lost 31–23. While leading the Houston Texans to their first win of the season in Week 5, Watson threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns while also throwing two interceptions in a 30–14 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Watson threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns in Week 11 against the New England Patriots, and he also carried for 36 yards and another touchdown in the 27–20 victory, earning him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Watson completed 17 of 25 passes for 318 yards and four passing touchdowns in a 41–25 victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 12. Despite his poor performance in Week 12, Watson briefly held the NFL’s top regular-season lifetime passer rating record before being eclipsed by Patrick Mahomes in Week 14 and retaining the top spot for the next five days. When the Houston Texans lost to the Indianapolis Colts 27–20 in Week 15, Watson threw for 373 yards and two touchdowns.

When Watson and some of his teammates gathered for the launch of his new restaurant without wearing face masks, the Texans fined him $7,500 for breaking the league’s COVID-19 regulations. The payment was levied by the organization in December 2020. Watson threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns in a 37–31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16. Watson was sacked after the game. Watson threw for 365 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception against the Tennessee Titans in Week 17, however, the Titans defeated him 41–38. With 4,823 throwing yards (the most in the NFL) and 33 touchdowns to go along with seven interceptions, Watson concluded the 2020 season in the first place.

His season was the best in franchise history on all key statistical measures, including throwing touchdowns, passing yards, and quarterback rating, and he finished first in all three categories. He became the first player since Jeff George of the Oakland Raiders in 1997 to lead the league in passing yards while playing for a team that had at least 12 losses in a season. Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson requested a move from the team following the 2020 season after becoming dissatisfied with the organization’s head office and coaching staff.

In regards to trade offers, the Texans were unwilling to engage in negotiations with other teams, which resulted in a deadlock with Watson until charges of sexual harassment against him surfaced. Despite the off-field concerns and Watson’s current status with the squad, he participated in organized team activities (OTAs) and training camp, albeit to a restricted extent.

With the addition of free-agent acquisition Tyrod Taylor and rookie Davis Mills to the Texans’ 53-man roster to begin the season, Watson becomes the team’s third quarterback. General manager Nick Caserio claimed that he will deal with Watson’s predicament “one day at a time,” according to the Houston Chronicle. His absence from Houston’s season-opening game was ruled out due to “non-injury reasons/personal matters” even though he had not been officially suspended or placed on any reserve lists prior to the decision.
