Beasley is the only American to have appeared in four FIFA World Cups, the first in 2002 and the most recent in 2014. During his 16-year international career, he earned 126 caps.Jamar Beasley, Beasley’s older brother, was a member of the Cedar Rapids Rampage, a member of the United States national futsal team, and a former MLS and US under-20 player. As children, DaMarcus and Jamar were drawn to soccer by their father’s desire for them to participate in sports.  As a child, he also enjoyed playing football and basketball. In addition, he has launched a jewellery collection with The Diamond Studio, a Scottish jeweller. Beasley’s car was set on fire in front of his Glasgow home on February 1, 2010.

Beasley was revealed as a co-owner of Fort Wayne FC on October 28, 2020.The team has declared that starting in the 2023 season, they would self-promote from USL League Two to USL League One. Beasley’s national team performance suffered as he dealt with injuries and limited playing time at Rangers. Beasley lost the ball on a short corner kick during the second match of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, resulting in a goal for Brazil. Shortly after, he was replaced and did not play again for the remainder of the competition.

Beasley was named to the United States’ 23-man World Cup team by coach Bob Bradley, but he only appeared in one group stage match, against Algeria, as a substitute. Beasley was called up for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in March 2013 after four substitute appearances over the next two and a half years. In wins over Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Panama, as well as a tie against Mexico, he started at left back and garnered rave accolades.  Jürgen Klinsmann, the manager of the United States national team, selected Beasley captain for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, in which he started five of the United States’ six matches. The tournament went to the United States of America, who came out victorious.

With his selection in the United States’ 2014 World Cup team, Beasley joined Claudio Reyna and Kasey Keller as the only Americans to have appeared in four World Cup squads. He became the first player to play in four World Cup competitions for the United States when he played against Ghana in the team’s opening match of the tournament. He appeared in all four of the United States’ matches, including the round of 16 match against Belgium. On December 15, 2014, Beasley stated that he will be leaving the national team.

But, at the request of United States coach Jürgen Klinsmann, he returned to the national team for the 2015 Gold Cup. He came on in overtime and missed the game’s final penalty.  Beasley became the first American to play in five World Cup qualifying cycles when he started at left wingback against Mexico in June 2017. In 2017, Beasley had a successful season, earning MLS All-Star honours and helping the Dynamo reach the MLS Playoffs for the first time in three seasons. He won the MLS Fair Play Individual Award, which goes to the player with the fewest fouls and the best sportsmanship.

Beasley and the Dynamo lost out on the playoffs in 2018, but they did win the US Open Cup, qualifying them for the CONCACAF Champions League in 2019. The Dynamo qualified for the tournament for the first time since 2013.  Beasley signed a new deal on December 30, 2018, that will keep him with the team in 2019. Beasley and the Dynamo kicked off the 2019 season on February 19 against Guastatoya in

the Champions League. Beasley gave the Dynamo the win with a weak foot shot from outside the box.

In a CCL encounter against Tigres on March 12, Beasley was hurt and had to leave. On March 20, he had knee surgery and was out for over two months. In a 1–0 loss to the Portland Timbers on May 15, Beasley returned from injury and made his first MLS appearance of the season.  After the 2019 season, Beasley announced his retirement on May 20.  In 2019, Beasley made 18 appearances in all competitions, the last of which was on October 6 when the Houston Dynamo defeated the LA Galaxy 4–2 in the season’s and Beasley’s final game. To a standing ovation from the fans, Beasley was replaced in the 89th minute.

Beasley didn’t get much playing time with the Rangers in the 2009–10 season. In December 2009, he claimed that he will try to leave the club during the January transfer window in order to obtain a spot in the United States squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Beasley was given a run of games with the Rangers club throughout the month of December shortly after this announcement.

He scored against Dundee United and Motherwell, among other games.
